300-415 ENSDWI Training vs Self-Study: Do You Need a Course? (2026)

No course is required for the 300-415 ENSDWI. Here is what the training on the market costs, what it gives you, and when self-study is the smarter spend.

300-415 ENSDWI training vs self-study - price line of every course option
SHORT ANSWER

Pay for the ENSDWI class only if your employer funds it or you hold Cisco Learning Credits. At about $4,300 it buys a ready-made lab and an instructor, not exam content you cannot find elsewhere. If you need hands-on time or CE credits, the $750 Cisco U. path is the better buy. Engineers who already run Catalyst SD-WAN should self-study with the Cisco Press book, a CML home lab and the free exam topics.

300-415 ENSDWI, now titled Implementing Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Solutions v1.2, is the SD-WAN concentration exam for CCNP Enterprise. Passing it on its own earns Cisco Certified Specialist - Enterprise SD-WAN Implementation; add the 350-401 ENCOR core exam and you hold CCNP Enterprise. Most candidates are network engineers who already run a Catalyst SD-WAN fabric at work, or are about to deploy one.

The training market is narrow and centred on Cisco. Cisco's five-day ENSDWI v3.0 class is sold through Learning Partners at around $4,300 or 43 Learning Credits, and the same material is sold self-paced on Cisco U. Beyond that there is one current Cisco Press book and a few video courses. The hard part for self-studiers is not content but lab access: an SD-WAN fabric needs controllers, certificates and edge routers, which is exactly what a paid class hands you ready-built.

Is a course required for the 300-415 ENSDWI?

Cisco has no training requirement for 300-415. You register through Pearson VUE, pay the $300 fee (or redeem Cisco Learning Credits) and sit the exam without any course, prerequisite exam or minimum experience. Cisco's ENSDWI course page lists recommended knowledge, such as enterprise WAN design, routing protocols, TLS and IPsec, but states plainly that there are no prerequisites. Hands-on SD-WAN experience helps a great deal; nobody checks it.

Cheapest credible way to prepare:Use the free v1.2 exam topics as your checklist, study from the Cisco Press Catalyst SD-WAN second edition, and build a fabric yourself in Cisco Modeling Labs Personal ($199). Use the free DevNet Sandbox when you only need to explore SD-WAN Manager. That is about $285 before the exam fee.

Three ways to prepare

Costs below are training only. The exam fee ($300) is the same whichever route you take.

OFFICIALCisco ENSDWI v3.0 course (Learning Partners)
$4,300 or 43 CLCs5 days + 3-4 weeks review

Five instructor-led days, in a classroom or online, on Cisco's own ENSDWI v3.0 material: 16 lessons from architecture and controller deployment through policies, AppQoE, security and multicast, with labs in which you deploy controllers, onboard WAN Edges with configuration groups and build control, data and application-aware routing policies. Attendance earns 32 Cisco Continuing Education credits, and partners accept Cisco Learning Credits.

Best for:Engineers whose employer pays or holds Cisco Learning Credits, and anyone who has never brought up an SD-WAN fabric.

Watch out:Five days is fast for 16 lessons, so you still need weeks of review. Prices are set per partner; compare listings in Cisco's Learning Locator.

GUIDED COURSECBT Nuggets ENSDWI v1.2 video course
$59/mo (~3 mo)6-10 weeks

About 35 hours of video from trainer Jeff Kish, mapped to the v1.2 exam topics and last updated in December 2025, with quizzes and N2K practice exams in the same subscription. You get structure and a second explanation of every topic for a small fraction of the class price, but you supply your own lab, usually Cisco Modeling Labs or the DevNet Sandbox.

Best for:Self-starters who learn better from video than from a 700-page book and want practice questions in the same subscription.

Watch out:No hosted SD-WAN lab pod is listed on the course page, and the plan renews monthly ($599 a year) until you cancel.

SELF-STUDYCisco Press book + CML home lab + practice
~$2858-12 weeks

The free exam topics PDF as your checklist, the Cisco Press Catalyst SD-WAN second edition as the main text (its Premium Edition adds Pearson practice exams), and Cisco Modeling Labs Personal, whose SD-WAN images let you build Manager, Controller, Validator and edge routers yourself. Cisco's configuration guides and the free DevNet Sandbox fill the gaps.

Best for:Engineers who already operate Catalyst SD-WAN at work, or who enjoy building labs and reading vendor documentation.

Watch out:Bringing a fabric up from scratch (certificates, organisation name, Validator reachability) can eat days, and SD-WAN Manager needs a lot of RAM.

FAQ

Do I have to take a Cisco course before the 300-415 exam?

No. Cisco has no training or prerequisite requirement for 300-415. You can register with Pearson VUE, pay the $300 fee and sit the exam without attending any course. Cisco's own ENSDWI course page lists recommended knowledge, such as enterprise WAN design, routing protocols, TLS and IPsec, but says there are no prerequisites. The course is preparation, not a gate.

How much does official ENSDWI training cost?

Cisco's five-day ENSDWI v3.0 class is sold by Learning Partners. Fast Lane lists it at US$4,300 or 43 Cisco Learning Credits; other partners set their own prices. The self-paced Cisco U. learning path, with 12 labs, is listed at $750 or 8 Learning Credits for 180 days of access. Both earn 32 Continuing Education credits. These are list prices checked in October 2026.

Can I build a Catalyst SD-WAN lab at home?

Yes. Cisco Modeling Labs Personal ($199 or 2 Learning Credits, up to 20 nodes) includes SD-WAN Manager, Controller, Validator and Catalyst 8000v edge images in its supplemental ISO, so you can build a complete fabric. Expect it to need a well-specced machine and some patience with certificates. To look around SD-WAN Manager without building anything, use Cisco's free DevNet Sandbox.

What do I earn by passing 300-415 on its own?

Passing 300-415 earns Cisco Certified Specialist - Enterprise SD-WAN Implementation. It also fulfils the concentration requirement for CCNP Enterprise, which you complete by passing the 350-401 ENCOR core exam as well. The exam lasts 90 minutes, costs $300, is offered in English and Japanese, and Cisco says it can count toward recertification requirements.

Is the Cisco Press SD-WAN book current for exam v1.2?

Mostly. The second edition, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN: Design, Deploy, and Secure Your WAN, came out in October 2024 and its publisher says it covers all 300-415 topics. Cisco reissued the v1.2 topics in July 2025, renaming components to their Catalyst names and adding a few items such as policy groups, AI-driven application-aware routing and NGFW. Check those lines against Cisco's documentation.
