350-601 DCCOR Training vs Self-Study: Do You Need a Course? (2026)

No course is required for the 350-601 DCCOR. Here is what the training on the market costs, what it gives you, and when self-study is the smarter spend.

350-601 DCCOR training vs self-study - price line of every course option
SHORT ANSWER

Pay for the official DCCOR course if an employer or expiring CLCs cover it, or if you have never touched UCS, MDS or ACI, because its hosted labs are the real value. If you already work in a Cisco data centre, self-study is the better spend: the Cisco Press guide, CML Personal and free emulators cover most of the outline for under $300. In between, the $1,500 Cisco U. path gets you Cisco's labs without five days away from work.

350-601 DCCOR is the core exam for CCNP Data Center and the written qualifier for the CCIE Data Center lab, and a pass on its own earns the Cisco Certified Specialist - Data Center Core. It is a 120-minute, $400 exam on the v1.2 outline, covering Nexus routing, switching and VXLAN EVPN, UCS and Intersight compute, Fibre Channel storage networking, automation and AI-ready networking, and security across all three.

The training market is thinner than for the enterprise track. Cisco's DCCOR v1.4 course runs through Learning Partners for about $4,600, or self-paced on Cisco U. for $1,500; beyond that there is INE, CBT Nuggets and one Cisco Press guide. The real issue is hardware. Nexus switching simulates well, but MDS Fibre Channel and UCS hardware do not, and those hosted labs are what the official course really sells.

Is a course required for the 350-601 DCCOR?

Cisco requires no course for 350-601. You book through Pearson VUE, pay $400 or redeem Cisco Learning Credits, and sit the exam. Cisco lists no formal prerequisites for its CCNP certifications, and the DCCOR course's recommended background (Ethernet and TCP/IP, SANs and Fibre Channel, hypervisors) is advice, not a gate. Data centre experience is never checked; the exam simply assumes it.

Cheapest credible way to prepare:Use the free v1.2 topics as your checklist, the Cisco Press Official Cert Guide ($79.99 list) as the main text, CML Personal ($199) for Nexus labs, and the free DevNet APIC simulator and UCS Platform Emulator for ACI and UCS: about $280 before the exam fee.

Three ways to prepare

Costs below are training only. The exam fee ($400) is the same whichever route you take.

OFFICIALCisco DCCOR v1.4 course (Learning Partners)
$4,600 or 46 CLCs5 days + 4-8 weeks review

Five instructor-led days, virtual or in a classroom, on Cisco's DCCOR v1.4 courseware: NX-OS routing and switching, VXLAN EVPN, ACI concepts, Fibre Channel and FCoE on MDS, UCS compute and SAN connectivity, automation and security. Labs run on Cisco's hosted Nexus, MDS and UCS equipment, Fast Lane adds three self-study days, and the course earns 64 CE credits. Cisco U. sells the same content self-paced for $1,500.

Best for:Engineers whose employer pays or holds CLCs, and anyone who has never configured UCS, MDS or ACI hardware

Watch out:Five days across network, compute and storage is fast, so budget weeks of review. Partner prices vary; compare them in Cisco's Learning Locator.

GUIDED COURSEINE or CBT Nuggets DCCOR video course
$236-$7993-5 months

Structured on-demand video instead of a class. INE's DCCOR path has about 43 hours of video, mostly from Brian McGahan, inside Premium ($799 a year), but it was built for v1.1 and has only two labs. CBT Nuggets' v1.2 course from Jeff Kish and David Smith, updated December 2025, adds quizzes and N2K practice exams for $59 a month.

Best for:Self-starters who want a teacher's walkthrough of all five domains at a fraction of the class price

Watch out:Neither gives you real MDS or UCS hardware, so you still need CML, emulators and the docs. Both subscriptions renew until you cancel.

SELF-STUDYCisco Press guide + CML + free emulators
~$2803-5 months

The free v1.2 topics PDF as a checklist, the Cisco Press DCCOR Official Cert Guide (2nd edition) as the main text, CML Personal for Nexus 9300v labs including vPC and VXLAN EVPN, the free DevNet Sandbox APIC simulator for ACI, and the free UCS Platform Emulator for UCS Manager. Cisco's NX-OS, MDS and UCS configuration guides fill the remaining gaps.

Best for:Engineers who already work in a Cisco data centre and can practise compute or storage tasks on the job

Watch out:Nothing free emulates MDS Fibre Channel or UCS X-Series under Intersight, and the 2023 book predates the v1.2 outline.

Pay or self-study? 3 questions

Answer in order. The first yes decides it.

Q1Is your employer paying, or do you hold Cisco Learning Credits you must use?
Take the 5-day DCCOR v1.4 course with a Learning Partner; its hosted Nexus, MDS and UCS labs are the part self-study cannot copy.

Buy the Cisco U. DCCOR path ($1,500 or 15 CLCs): its 19 hosted labs reach compute and storage without five days off work.
NO ↓
Q3Do you learn better from video than from a long cert guide?
Add CBT Nuggets ($59 a month) or INE Premium ($799 a year) to the self-study kit, and lab every lesson in CML as you go.
NO ↓
ALL NOSelf-study: the free v1.2 topics, the Cisco Press guide, CML Personal for Nexus and the free APIC and UCS emulators, about $280 plus the $400 fee.

FAQ

Do I need to take a course before the 350-601 DCCOR exam?

No. Cisco has no training requirement for 350-601 and lists no formal prerequisites for its CCNP certifications. You register with Pearson VUE, pay $400 or use Cisco Learning Credits, and sit the exam without any course. Cisco's DCCOR course is recommended preparation, not a condition, and nobody checks your data centre experience before you test.

How much does the official DCCOR course cost?

Learning Partners set their own prices. Fast Lane's US list price for the five-day DCCOR v1.4 class is $4,600 or 46 Cisco Learning Credits. The self-paced Cisco U. learning path costs $1,500 or 15 CLCs for 180 days of access, and Cisco U. All Access, which includes every professional-level path, is $6,000 a year. The exam fee of $400 is separate in every case.

Can I lab DCCOR at home for free?

Partly. Cisco Modeling Labs Free runs five nodes, but its images are limited to IOL, IOL-L2, ASAv and Linux hosts, with no Nexus. The free DevNet Sandbox offers an APIC simulator for ACI, and the free UCS Platform Emulator covers UCS Manager. Nexus 9300v needs a paid CML edition such as Personal at $199, and CML has no MDS image at all.

Is the DCCOR Official Cert Guide still current?

Mostly. The second edition from Cisco Press was published in December 2023, before the current v1.2 outline. v1.2 renamed domain 4 Automation and Artificial Intelligence, added high-performance networking for AI workloads, and asks for monitoring with traditional and AI-powered tools such as Nexus Dashboard. Use the book for the core and the free v1.2 topics PDF to find what it misses.

Does DCCOR training count toward recertification?

Yes. Cisco awards 64 Continuing Education credits for the DCCOR course or the Cisco U. learning path. Renewing CCNP Data Center takes 80 CE credits within three years and the Data Center Core specialist takes 40, so the course covers most of a CCNP renewal. Passing DCCOR or another qualifying exam also recertifies, so self-studiers lose nothing here.
