AWS SAA-C03 Study Plan: Pass Solutions Architect in 8 Weeks
Comprehensive 8-week AWS SAA-C03 study plan for Solutions Architect Associate.
Table of Contents
The AWS SAA-C03 Solutions Architect Associate exam is one of the most popular AWS certifications. This 8-week plan covers all domains with a balance of theory, hands-on practice, and exam preparation.
Study Plan Overview
Plan for 1.5-2 hours per day, 5-6 days per week. The SAA-C03 requires deeper understanding than CLF-C02, including hands-on experience with service configurations and architectural decision-making.
Weeks 1-3: Core Services
Cover compute (EC2 instance types, Auto Scaling, ELB, Lambda), storage (S3 classes, lifecycle policies, EBS types), database (RDS Multi-AZ, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache), and networking (VPC design, subnets, NACLs, Security Groups, Transit Gateway).
Hands-on: Build a multi-tier VPC with public and private subnets, deploy an Auto Scaling web application, configure S3 lifecycle policies.
Weeks 4-5: Architecture and Design
Focus on the Well-Architected Framework pillars, high availability patterns, disaster recovery strategies (backup/restore, pilot light, warm standby, active-active), cost optimisation, and serverless architectures. Study real-world architecture scenarios.
Weeks 6-7: Practice and Weak Areas
Take 2-3 full practice exams per week. Analyse results by domain. Spend 80% of study time on domains scoring below 75%. Review AWS FAQs for services you find confusing. See our practice exams comparison.
Week 8: Final Review
- Take a final full practice exam (target 80%+)
- Light review of notes and weak areas
- Review common question patterns and keywords
- Prepare for exam day (see exam day guide)
- No new material in the last 2 days
