Agentforce Specialist exam readiness checklist - go / no-go board

Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist, the credential formerly called AI Specialist, is for admins, developers and architects who build agents and prompt templates on the Salesforce Platform. Salesforce expects about a year of platform configuration, including Data 360, plus hands-on time in Agent Builder, Prompt Builder and Testing Center. The current exam guide follows the Spring '26 release and covers Agent Script, hybrid reasoning and multi-agent protocols such as MCP and A2A.

Ready here means you have built and broken agents, not just watched demos. AI Agents alone is 35% of the exam, and most questions describe a business need and ask which topic, action, template type or grounding method fits. With a 72% pass mark, 60 scored questions and no partial credit on multi-select items, hesitating between two plausible features costs points. If you can do the items below in an org without notes, book it.

How to use this checklist

Tick only what you can do today, without notes. Each tick is weighted by its domain's share of the official outline, so the score follows the exam, not the number of boxes. A heavy domain (15%+ of the weight) at NO-GO holds the verdict even when the total looks fine. Your ticks are saved in this browser only.

GO · 85%+Book the exam. Use the countdown below to finish.
HOLD · 60-84%Close. Spend one or two weeks on the amber domains, then re-check.
NO-GO · under 60%Not yet. Booking now mostly buys a retake.

Check your ticks under exam conditions

A tick is a claim; a timed set of questions is the evidence. ExamCert AI has exam-style Agentforce Specialist questions with an explanation for every option. Do a mixed set and see whether the domains you ticked hold up.

Red flags: don't book yet if...

Any one of these on the Agentforce Specialist is a better predictor of a fail than a low tick count.

NO-GO IF

You have never built an agent end to end

The exam guide assumes hands-on work in Agent Builder, Prompt Builder and Testing Center, and most questions are scenarios that ask which configuration fits. Knowing the vocabulary from videos is not enough to separate two plausible answers.

Fix:In a Trailhead playground, build a Service agent with a custom topic, a flow action and a prompt template action, then test it in Testing Center.

NO-GO IF

You are studying old AI Specialist material

The current guide is organised around six sections including Data 360 Fundamentals, Governance and Observability and Multi-Agent Orchestration, and it covers Agent Script and hybrid reasoning. Older courses and question banks built on the first AI Specialist outline miss much of this.

Fix:Rebuild your checklist from the current exam guide and the Agentblazer trails Salesforce recommends, and drop resources that predate the rename.

NO-GO IF

You cannot say whose permissions an agent uses

The guide asks you to explain the security context an agent runs in and how it affects action execution, and to choose between Employee and Service agents. Getting this wrong breaks both exam answers and real deployments.

Fix:For each agent type, write down which user its actions run as, which permission sets it needs and what data it can reach.

NO-GO IF

Multi-select questions keep costing you

Salesforce gives no partial credit: a question with several correct options only scores if you pick all of them. With a 72% pass mark, a habit of missing one option is expensive.

Fix:In practice, justify every option on multi-select items as in or out before answering, and track how many you lose to partial picks.

NO-GO IF

Data 360 grounding is a black box to you

Data 360 Fundamentals is 20% of the exam: the Agentforce Data Library, chunking, indexing and retrievers. Candidates who have only grounded with merge fields struggle here.

Fix:Create a Data Library from a document, follow the retriever it produces into a prompt template and compare the answers with and without it.

The numbers that say you're ready

Rules of thumb, not official thresholds: Salesforce does not publish a readiness score. Hit all four before you pay for a booking.

Practice score85%+ on fresh questions

Rule of thumb, not a Salesforce figure. The pass mark is 72%, so a buffer of around 13 points on questions you have not seen before absorbs exam-day nerves and new wording.

Hands-on buildAgent + 2 actions in 1 h

Rule of thumb. If you can stand up a working agent with a custom topic and two custom actions in an hour without a guide, the AI Agents scenarios will feel familiar.

AI Agents section80%+ in practice

Rule of thumb. AI Agents is 35% of the exam, by far the largest section, so it has to be your strongest area rather than one you hope to scrape through.

Pace60 questions in 85 min

Rule of thumb. Finishing a first pass in about 85 of the 105 minutes leaves time to revisit flagged multi-select items, where most avoidable points go.

Booking and ID checklist

The logistics that trip people up are specific to the Agentforce Specialist and its delivery provider. Work through them in order.

STEP 014-6 weeks out

Check your legal name

Your Trailhead Academy legal name must exactly match your government photo ID. You cannot edit it yourself, so open a Salesforce Help case early if it is wrong.

STEP 024-6 weeks out

Look at the retake promotion

Salesforce and Pearson offer one free retake for candidates who opt in, then book, pay for and sit a full-price exam between 29 September and 17 November 2026. The free retake must be taken 4 January to 7 April 2027, in the same language and delivery mode.

STEP 033-4 weeks out

Register on Trailhead Academy

Choose the exam, pick online or test-centre delivery and pay US$200 plus tax (JPY 30,000 in Japan). Rescheduling is not allowed beyond one year from purchase.

STEP 041 week out

Run Pearson's system test

For online delivery you need Windows 10 or macOS 14 or later. Run the system test on the same computer and network you will use, and confirm your ID meets Pearson's rules.

STEP 0548 h before

Test-centre change deadline

Reschedule or cancel a test-centre booking at least 48 hours before the start time, free of charge, in your Pearson account. Missing the exam counts as a no-show and costs the full fee.

STEP 0624 h before

Online change deadline

Online-proctored bookings can be moved or cancelled free until 24 hours before the start. After that, a missed exam is charged in full and a voucher is forfeited.

STEP 07Exam day

Launch from Trailhead Academy

For an online exam, arrive 20-30 minutes early and click Launch in the Available section to connect to your OnVUE proctor. At a centre, bring ID that matches your booking exactly.

Exam-week countdown: T-7 to T-0

T-77 days out

Take a timed practice set, map every miss to one of the six exam-guide sections and rebuild the weak features in your playground org rather than rereading notes.

T-33 days out

Rehearse the decision tables: which template type for which need, which grounding method, Employee versus Service agent, what the Trust Layer does, and what to check when deploying to production.

T-1Day before

No new features. Rerun the system test or plan the route, check that your ID matches your Trailhead Academy name, clear your desk and get some sleep.

T-0Exam day

Read each scenario for the one constraint that decides it. On multi-select items count the options the question asks for, flag doubtful ones and use the review screen; you have about 1 minute 45 seconds per question.

Test-day rules

✓ Allowed / expected

  • One valid government-issued photo ID whose name exactly matches your Trailhead Academy legal name
  • Pearson's digital whiteboard during an online exam, or an erasable noteboard at a test centre
  • Flagging questions and changing answers on the review screen before you submit
  • Asking the test-centre proctor for a break by raising your hand; you may need to show ID again

✕ Not allowed

  • Any hard-copy or online material during the exam, including Salesforce Help and Trailhead
  • Expired, digital, copied or paper-based IDs
  • Phones, notes or anyone else in the room during an online exam
  • Circumventing the retake policy or sharing exam content, both prohibited by the Program Agreement

After you pass

Immediate result

You see pass or fail as soon as you finish, with section-level feedback aligned to the exam guide. The result also lands in My Dashboard and in an email; allow up to 24 hours after an online exam.

Certificate and profile

If you pass, your certificate is attached to the results email and the certification logo appears on your Trailblazer profile, where employers can check it through Salesforce's certification verification.

Yearly maintenance module

Salesforce requires you to complete the Agentforce Specialist certification maintenance module on Trailhead once a year. Miss the due date and the certification expires, and the standard way back is to pay for and pass the full exam again.

FAQ

Is Agentforce Specialist the same exam as Salesforce AI Specialist?

It is the same credential under its new name, but the content has moved on. The current exam guide follows the Spring '26 release and has six sections: Prompt Engineering, Data 360 Fundamentals, AI Agents, Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance, Governance and Observability, and Multi-Agent Orchestration. Study from that guide rather than material written for the original AI Specialist outline.

How many questions are on the Agentforce Specialist exam and what is the passing score?

You get 60 scored multiple-choice questions plus up to five unscored questions mixed in at random, and 105 minutes to answer them. The passing score is 72%. Questions with more than one correct answer give no partial credit, so you must pick every correct option. The exam is offered in English, French and Japanese.

Do I need Platform Administrator before Agentforce Specialist?

No. The exam has no prerequisite. Salesforce recommends, but does not require, Platform Administrator and Platform App Builder, and says a successful candidate typically has about a year of platform configuration experience including Data 360. If you have never built flows, permission sets or custom objects, those gaps will show up in the agent scenarios.

What happens if I fail the Agentforce Specialist exam?

You can register again 24 hours after a first failed attempt and 14 days after a second. A third failure in the same release cycle means waiting for the next cycle, when attempts reset. Retakes cost US$100. Use your section-level feedback to decide where to focus, and check whether the current free-retake promotion applies to you.

How do I keep the Agentforce Specialist certification current?

Complete the Agentforce Specialist certification maintenance module on Trailhead once a year, before the due date shown in your maintenance requirements. The modules cover new release features and are free. If you miss the deadline the certification expires, and if you are not eligible for reinstatement you have to pay for and pass the full exam again.
