SPCOR is the core exam for CCNP Service Provider and the qualifying exam for the CCIE Service Provider lab, and a pass on its own earns the Cisco Certified Specialist - Service Provider Core certification. It is written for engineers who run carrier and large backbone networks: IS-IS, OSPF and BGP at scale, MPLS and Segment Routing, L2VPN and L3VPN services, multicast, QoS and model-driven automation, on IOS XE and IOS XR alike.
Ready for this exam means more than recognising answers. The v1.1 topics ask you to implement, configure and troubleshoot, and Cisco exams can include lab-style simulation items, so you should be able to build a small PE-P-PE core from a blank configuration and read the output it produces. Cisco does not publish an item count or a passing score, so the checklist below is weighted by the official domain percentages instead. Tick an item only if you could do it tomorrow without notes.
How to use this checklist
Tick only what you can do today, without notes. Each tick is weighted by its domain's share of the official outline, so the score follows the exam, not the number of boxes. A heavy domain (15%+ of the weight) at NO-GO holds the verdict even when the total looks fine. Your ticks are saved in this browser only.
The 350-501 SPCOR readiness checklist
23 items across 5 domains, each one a thing the exam expects you to do rather than recognise.
Your go / no-go board
One lamp per domain, one verdict overall. Amber and red rows are your study plan for the next week or two.
Check your ticks under exam conditions
A tick is a claim; a timed set of questions is the evidence. ExamCert AI has 400+ exam-style 350-501 SPCOR questions with an explanation for every option. Do a mixed set and see whether the domains you ticked hold up.

Any one of these on the 350-501 SPCOR is a better predictor of a fail than a low tick count.
Your hands-on time is IOS XE only
The blueprint names IOS XR explicitly (software architecture, LPTS, routing policy language), and Segment Routing, EVPN and telemetry are usually run on XR in provider networks. If XR show output looks foreign, exhibit and simulation items will eat your time.
Fix:Add IOS XR nodes to your lab (the XR virtual or container images in Cisco Modeling Labs) and redo your BGP, IS-IS and L3VPN builds there, using commit, RPL and the XR show commands.
You cannot write out the label stack of an L3VPN packet hop by hop
MPLS and Segment Routing (20%) and Services (20%) both assume you know which label is the VPN label, which is transport, where penultimate-hop popping happens and what TI-LFA pushes on a failure. Without that, verification questions become guesses.
Fix:Send one CE-to-CE ping across your lab, check the forwarding table at every hop, and draw the stack on paper for LDP and again for SR-MPLS with a TI-LFA repair path.
Your BGP best-path order stops after local preference
Networking is the heaviest domain at 30%, and BGP path selection is an objective of its own next to additional paths, PIC and policy. Tie-breaker scenarios (MED, eBGP over iBGP, IGP cost to the next hop, router ID) are where candidates stall.
Fix:Write the full selection order from memory, then build a two-exit lab and change one attribute at a time until every step picks the winner you predicted.
You skipped Automation and Assurance as the easy 15%
Several objectives in it are configure-and-verify, not describe: NETCONF and RESTCONF, gNMI dial-in and dial-out with TLS, NetFlow/IPFIX and SNMPv3. Routing specialists often have never typed them.
Fix:Enable each one on a lab router, pull one YANG-modelled value with RESTCONF, and confirm that a telemetry or NetFlow collector actually receives data.
Your practice source quotes a question count or a passing score
Cisco does not publish an item count or a passing score for 350-501, so any material that states them made them up, which is a hint the rest of it was not checked against the v1.1 topics either.
Fix:Map your question bank against the official v1.1 exam topics PDF and cover any objective it never tests (SRv6, Flexible Algorithm, BGP flowspec and gNMI are common gaps) with your own lab work.
The numbers that say you're ready
Rules of thumb, not official thresholds: Cisco does not publish a readiness score. Hit all four before you pay for a booking.
A rule of thumb, not a Cisco figure: Cisco publishes no pass mark. Scoring well on questions you have never seen, from two sources, shows understanding rather than memory of one bank.
A rule of thumb. Cisco exams do not let you return to earlier items, so you have to commit to each answer and still leave room for any lab-style items.
A rule of thumb. IS-IS, SR or LDP, MP-BGP VPNv4 and VRFs from memory, then a CE-to-CE ping you can explain label by label, exercises four of the five domains in one sitting.
A rule of thumb. If you can explain SR-TE with a PCE, or Inter-AS option B, aloud to a colleague, the describe-level questions on that topic will not surprise you.
Booking and ID checklist
The logistics that trip people up are specific to the 350-501 SPCOR and its delivery provider. Work through them in order.
Set up your Cisco and Pearson VUE profiles
Sign in to Pearson VUE through Cisco's testing program and make sure the name on the profile matches your ID exactly. Keep your Cisco candidate ID (CSCO number) so the result lands on your certification record.
Book 350-501
Pick a Pearson VUE test centre or OnVUE online proctoring. SPCOR is offered in English only and lasts 120 minutes; choose a time of day when you normally do your best lab work.
Pay US$400 or redeem a voucher
Pay by card, with Cisco Learning Credits, or with a voucher bought from Pearson VUE or an authorised source. Cisco does not compensate candidates for fraudulent or unauthorised vouchers.
Run the Pearson VUE system test
Use the same computer and network you will test on: Windows 10 or macOS 14 or later, one monitor, webcam, microphone and speaker, no VPN or corporate network, and at least 6 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up.
Check your identification
At a test centre Cisco wants two IDs, one a government-issued photo ID, both signed. OnVUE needs one valid, unexpired government photo ID whose name matches the booking exactly.
Note the reschedule deadline
Your Pearson VUE confirmation states the last point at which you can reschedule or cancel. Changes after it, or a no-show, forfeit the fee, so put the date in your calendar.
Plan the retake properly
Cisco requires a five-calendar-day wait, counted from the day after the attempt, before you resit 350-501. Use the section breakdown on your score report to decide what to rebuild in the lab first.
Exam-week countdown: T-7 to T-0
Sit your last full timed mock under exam conditions: 120 minutes, no notes, no going back. List the three weakest objectives and spend the week in the lab on those only. Confirm the appointment time and time zone in Pearson VUE.
Rebuild the L3VPN-over-SR core once from blank configurations and break it twice (an LDP-IGP sync fault, a missing route target). Stop opening new topics. If you are testing on OnVUE, rerun the system test on the exam machine and network.
Light review only: the BGP best-path order, the three MPLS QoS models, label stacks, EVPN and the Inter-AS options. Lay out your IDs, clear the desk and room if testing at home, and get a full night's sleep.
Start OnVUE check-in 30 minutes early, or arrive early at the test centre with both IDs. Read the tutorial screens, answer every item before you move on, and keep time in reserve for any simulation items.
Test-day rules
✓ Allowed / expected
- Two IDs at a test centre (one government-issued photo ID, both signed); one valid government photo ID on OnVUE
- The note board the test centre issues, or the built-in digital whiteboard on OnVUE
- A drink in an unmarked container on your OnVUE desk
- Comfort aids and accommodations approved by Pearson VUE before exam day
✕ Not allowed
- Phones, watches, notes, laptops or anything else taken into or out of the exam room
- Paper, pens or a physical whiteboard during an OnVUE exam
- A second monitor, a virtual machine, a VPN or a corporate network on OnVUE
- Leaving the webcam view, reading aloud, or anyone else in the room during OnVUE
- Discussing or sharing exam content afterwards, which Cisco's confidentiality agreement forbids
After you pass
Result on screen
You get a preliminary score report with a per-section breakdown as soon as you finish. Cisco can revise a score after testing if misconduct or a scoring error comes to light, and employers verify results online rather than from the printout.
Specialist badge and the CCNP path
A pass earns Cisco Certified Specialist - Service Provider Core, with a digital badge you claim from a Credly email. Add one CCNP Service Provider concentration exam to complete CCNP, or use 350-501 to qualify for the CCIE Service Provider lab.
Three-year clock
The certification stays active for three years. Recertify with Continuing Education credits (40 for a Specialist, 80 for CCNP), by passing qualifying exams again, or by moving up a level before it lapses.

How many questions are on 350-501 and what is the passing score?
Cisco does not publish an item count or a passing score for 350-501. It states only that the exam lasts 120 minutes, and it sets cut scores statistically and can change them. Ignore study sources that quote a fixed number of questions or a target score, and use the official domain weights to judge where the marks are.
Do I need IOS XR experience for SPCOR?
Yes, at least in a lab. The v1.1 topics name IOS XR in the software architecture objective and call out XR features such as LPTS and routing policy language, and Segment Routing, EVPN and telemetry are mostly run on XR in provider networks. You do not need production access: XR images in Cisco Modeling Labs are enough to learn the commit model and the show commands.
Can I take the SPCOR exam online?
Yes. Cisco written exams, including 350-501, can be taken through Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring in most countries, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. OnVUE needs a private room, a clear desk, one monitor, a working webcam and microphone, and a passed system test on the same device and network. The exam is offered in English only.
What does passing 350-501 give me?
A pass earns the Cisco Certified Specialist - Service Provider Core certification. It is also the core exam for CCNP Service Provider, which you complete by adding one concentration exam, and the qualifying exam for the CCIE Service Provider lab. Cisco also lets it count toward recertifying other Cisco certifications you hold.
When should I book if my lab skills are still weak?
Book once you can build a small MPLS or SR core with a working L3VPN from a blank configuration and explain every label, and once you score well on practice sets you have not seen before. A failed attempt only costs a five-calendar-day wait, but it also costs US$400, so use the score report to rebuild weak areas rather than rushing a resit.
