Pearson VUE System Test Guide: Pass on the First Try

Step-by-step Pearson VUE system test guide for online proctored exams. Check your computer, webcam, internet, and software compatibility.

The Pearson VUE system test checks whether your computer meets requirements for an online proctored exam. Run it at least 48 hours before your exam.

Why the System Test Matters

Technical problems are the top cause of stress during online exams. Webcam compatibility, firewall conflicts, and insufficient bandwidth can all be identified in advance.

Running the System Test

  1. Visit the Pearson VUE website, navigate to Online Proctored Exams
  2. Click Run System Test (no login required)
  3. Download and run the small test application
  4. Grant requested permissions
  5. Review results and address any failures

Tip: Run the test on the same computer, location, and network you plan to use for the exam.

Detailed System Requirements

  • Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS 12+
  • Minimum 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
  • 1 GB free disk space
  • 3 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload minimum
  • Webcam: 640x480 minimum, movable for room scan
  • Working microphone

Warning: Corporate laptops with VPN or endpoint protection frequently conflict with OnVUE. Consider using a personal computer.

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Webcam not detected: Close Teams/Zoom/Skype, try different USB port, update drivers
  • Internet too slow: Use wired Ethernet, close other apps, pause household streaming
  • Software conflicts: Add antivirus exceptions, disconnect VPN

Network Configuration Tips

  • Use Ethernet over Wi-Fi for reliability
  • Disconnect from VPN before starting
  • Australian NBN speeds drop during peak evening hours; schedule morning exams
  • Check for NBN outages on the nbnco website
