Google Cloud Professional Architect Guide 2026: Master the Case Studies
The most prestigious GCP certification. Learn to design enterprise solutions and ace the case study questions.

What is Professional Cloud Architect?
The Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification is the most sought-after GCP credential. It validates your ability to design, develop, and manage robust, secure, scalable, and dynamic solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
This is a senior-level certification requiring 3+ years of industry experience and 1+ years of GCP design and management experience. The exam includes case study-based questions that test real-world architecture skills.
The Case Studies (Critical!)
The exam includes 4 case studies that appear throughout. You MUST study these beforehand - they're published on Google's website.
Case Study 1: EHR Healthcare
A healthcare company migrating from on-premises. Key focus: HIPAA compliance, data residency, disaster recovery, and scaling medical imaging workloads.
- Healthcare data compliance (HIPAA, HITRUST)
- Hybrid connectivity with on-premises systems
- High availability for critical healthcare applications
Case Study 2: Helicopter Racing League
Media company streaming live events globally. Focus: real-time streaming, global content delivery, machine learning for telemetry analysis.
- Global content delivery and streaming
- Real-time data processing
- ML for predictive analytics
Case Study 3: Mountkirk Games
Gaming company building a new multiplayer game. Focus: global scaling, real-time leaderboards, game analytics, GPU workloads.
- Global game server infrastructure
- Real-time multiplayer architecture
- Analytics and player insights
Case Study 4: TerramEarth
IoT company with heavy equipment. Focus: IoT data ingestion, predictive maintenance, fleet management analytics.
- IoT data streaming at scale
- Edge computing for vehicles
- Predictive maintenance ML models
Key Architecture Patterns
Compute Selection
- Compute Engine: Full control, lift-and-shift, Windows workloads
- GKE: Microservices, container orchestration, hybrid deployments
- Cloud Run: Serverless containers, event-driven, auto-scaling to zero
- App Engine: Fully managed PaaS, standard vs. flexible environments
- Cloud Functions: Event-driven functions, lightweight processing
Data Architecture
- BigQuery: Analytics, data warehousing, ML integration
- Cloud Spanner: Global relational, financial transactions
- Cloud SQL: Regional relational, managed MySQL/PostgreSQL
- Firestore: Document database, mobile/web apps
- Bigtable: Time-series, IoT, high-throughput
Networking & Security
- Shared VPC: Multi-project networking
- VPC Service Controls: Data exfiltration protection
- Cloud Armor: DDoS protection, WAF
- Identity-Aware Proxy: Zero-trust access
- Secret Manager: Secrets and credentials
Study Strategy
- Master the Case Studies: Read them multiple times, understand requirements
- Think Like an Architect: Consider cost, scalability, security trade-offs
- Know GCP Services Deeply: When to use each and limitations
- Practice Designing: Draw architecture diagrams
- Review Documentation: Best practices and solution architectures
