Cloud Certification Exam Day Tips: Pass on Your First Try

Everything you need to know before, during, and after your exam.

Cloud certification exam day tips for AWS, Azure, and GCP test takers

The Night Before

DO:

  • Get 7-8 hours of sleep (seriously!)
  • Light review of cheat sheets/notes only
  • Prepare your ID and exam confirmation
  • Set 2 alarms if testing in the morning
  • For online exams: test your system requirements

DON'T: Cram new material. If you don't know it now, last-minute panic won't help.

Exam Morning

  • Eat a good breakfast: Protein + complex carbs for sustained energy
  • Caffeine: Normal amount only - don't overdo it
  • Arrive early: 15-30 minutes for test centers
  • Online exams: Start check-in 30 minutes early
  • Clear your desk: Remove everything except allowed items

During the Exam

Time Management

  • Don't spend more than 2-3 minutes per question
  • Flag difficult questions and move on
  • First pass: Answer what you know
  • Second pass: Return to flagged questions
  • Leave 10-15 minutes for review

Question Strategy

  • Read the ENTIRE question before looking at answers
  • Identify keywords: "MOST", "LEAST", "BEST", "NOT"
  • Eliminate obviously wrong answers first
  • For "best practice" questions, think like the vendor
  • Watch for negatives: "EXCEPT", "NOT", "LEAST"

Common Traps

  • Services that seem similar: Know the differences!
  • Cost questions: Reserved > On-Demand > Spot (usually)
  • Security questions: Least privilege principle
  • Availability questions: Multi-AZ, multi-region patterns

Online Exam Tips

  • Use a wired internet connection if possible
  • Close ALL other applications
  • Ensure adequate lighting on your face
  • Remove second monitors
  • Have your phone out of reach
  • Keep your ID nearby for verification

After the Exam

Passed? Congratulations! Share on LinkedIn, update your resume, and plan your next certification.

Didn't pass? Don't worry! Review the score breakdown, focus on weak areas, and retake in 14 days. Most people need 1-2 attempts.
