CySA+ CS0-004 Study Resources: What Exists for V4
V4 launched in June 2026. Most of the internet is still teaching V3. Here is what genuinely exists for CS0-004 and how to prepare while the shelf catches up.

What actually exists
CySA+ V4 (CS0-004) went live on 23 June 2026 and CS0-003 retires in English on 22 December 2026. That transition window is the whole story for resources: official V3 learning products stop being sold on 22 November, a month before the V3 exam dies, while third-party books, courses and question banks always lag a new version by six to twelve months. If you are starting today you should be sitting V4 — but you will be preparing for it with a shelf that is still half-stocked with V3 material.
- Official objectivesWell servedThe CS0-004 objectives PDF is free and published. It is the only V4 document that is definitely current, which makes it more important on this exam than on most.

- Question banksThinVolume drilling aligned to V4 wording is the scarcest resource in the transition window. Mixed V3/V4 banks still work for the roughly 70% of content the versions share.
The version rule that saves the most money: buy nothing printed until you have matched the exam code on the cover against the code on your voucher. Publication year is not a proxy for version.
The stack, in build order
Because the third-party shelf lags, the V4 stack leans harder on primary sources and hands-on than a normal CompTIA stack does. That is not a compromise — CySA+ is a performance-flavoured exam and primary sources are what it is written from.
- 1CS0-004 objectives, annotatedPrint the V4 objectives and mark every bullet as confident, shaky, or new. The delta against CS0-003 is where your study time belongs.

Which resource covers which exam area
V4 keeps the four-domain shape. Weights shift between versions, so confirm yours — but security operations and vulnerability management have carried roughly two thirds of this exam across both recent versions.

Both gap rows are addressable for free: read the reporting bullets properly, and diff the V4 objectives against your V3 course so you know exactly what your material does not cover.
What to skip
During a version transition the wrong purchase costs more than usual, because the material expires on a published date rather than gradually going stale.
Do not spend money on these
- V3 learning products bought after November 2026. Official CS0-003 material stops being sold on 22 November and the exam dies on 22 December. Buying into it now is buying a countdown.
- Any book without the exam code on the cover. During a transition, the publication year tells you nothing.
- Braindumps. Version-mismatched, agreement-violating, and revocation-triggering — a bad trade three separate ways.
- Tool-specific deep dives. CySA+ tests analytical judgement, not vendor console navigation. Learning one SIEM's query language in depth is a job skill, not an exam skill.
- Sitting V3 "because more material exists". The credential is identical either way and V3 is gone within months.

Should I sit CS0-003 or CS0-004?
If you are starting from scratch today, sit CS0-004. CS0-003 retires in English on 22 December 2026 and its official learning products stop selling a month earlier. The certification is identical either way — the version is not printed on your credential — so the only argument for V3 is being nearly finished with V3 material already.
Do CS0-003 courses still work for CS0-004?
Mostly. The domain structure is unchanged and the majority of content carries over, so a V3 course is roughly a 70% solution. Close the rest by diffing the two objectives PDFs and studying only the bullets that are new or reworded. Do not assume a V3 course covers V4 additions.
Is CySA+ worth it without SOC experience?
It is passable without SOC experience but noticeably harder, because the scenario questions assume you have triaged something before. If you have no operational exposure, the lab layer is not optional — it is the substitute for the job experience the exam assumes.
How much does CS0-004 cost?
CompTIA lists CySA+ around the $400 mark and V4 pricing tracks it closely, but confirm the current figure on CompTIA's site before booking. Budget the exam fee plus roughly $60-$100 if you take the balanced resource path.
