CompTIA Cloud+ CV0-004 Exam Guide 2026

Cloud+ is the rare vendor-neutral cloud certification. CV0-004 went from five domains to six, adding DevOps Fundamentals — and 90 questions in 90 minutes makes pacing the real challenge.

CompTIA Cloud+ CV0-004 exam guide

CompTIA Cloud+ (CV0-004) is a vendor-neutral cloud certification covering architecture, deployment, operations, security and troubleshooting across providers rather than inside one. It launched on 24 September 2024.

What Cloud+ certifies

The audience is a systems administrator or cloud engineer with two to three years of hands-on experience who works across cloud environments rather than specialising in one provider's console.

That vendor-neutrality is the whole proposition. It is a weakness if you work exclusively in AWS — the vendor's own certification will serve you better — and a strength if you operate hybrid or multi-cloud, or if a framework or employer specifically wants a neutral credential.

One minute per question

Up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, including performance-based questions. That is the tightest ratio of any exam in this batch — SecurityX and CySA+ both give 165 minutes for a similar question count. A single PBQ that runs long will eat several multiple-choice answers. Flag and move on ruthlessly.

The six domains and their weights

Cloud Architecture23%
Deployment19%
Security19%
Operations17%
Troubleshooting12%
DevOps Fundamentals10%

Architecture and Deployment together are 42%. Security adds another 19%, so design, build and secure accounts for over three-fifths of the exam.

The new DevOps Fundamentals domain

CV0-004 moved from five domains to six by adding DevOps Fundamentals. At 10% it is the smallest domain, and it is the clearest statement about how CompTIA now sees the cloud administrator role — pipelines, automation and infrastructure as code are part of the job, not a specialisation next door.

If you came up through traditional systems administration, this is your likely gap. Ten percent is nine or so questions — enough to decide a marginal pass.

What each domain covers

Cloud Architecture — 23%

The largest domain. Sizing and capacity planning, high availability and disaster-recovery design, selecting service models and deployment models, and analysing requirements to produce a solution. Concept-led rather than console-led, which is what makes it portable across providers.

Deployment — 19%

Provisioning compute, storage and networking; migrating workloads; configuring the environment. Expect questions that give you a target state and ask for the correct sequence or the correct resource choice.

Security — 19%

Identity and access, network segmentation and controls, encryption and key handling, and compliance obligations — all framed neutrally rather than as one provider’s IAM implementation.

Operations — 17%

Monitoring and logging, performance and cost optimisation, backup and recovery execution, and lifecycle management once a workload is live.

Troubleshooting — 12%

Systematic diagnosis across connectivity, performance, capacity, security and automation failures. As with Server+, this rewards a methodology rather than recall.

DevOps Fundamentals — 10%

Covered above — pipelines, automation and infrastructure as code, new to CV0-004 and the likeliest gap for candidates from a traditional systems administration background.

How to prepare

Weeks 1–2
Architecture and deployment (42%). Capacity, sizing, high availability, migration approaches, provisioning. The largest block — start here.
Week 3
Security (19%). Identity, network controls, data protection and compliance in a provider-neutral framing.
Week 4
Operations and troubleshooting (29% together). Monitoring, optimisation, backup and recovery, then systematic fault isolation.
Week 5
DevOps fundamentals (10%) and timing practice. If pipelines and IaC are unfamiliar, spend the week here — then rehearse the 90-in-90 pacing until it is automatic.

The study-time calculator will size the plan against your weekly hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Cloud+ CV0-004 domains?

Cloud Architecture (23%), Deployment (19%), Security (19%), Operations (17%), Troubleshooting (12%) and DevOps Fundamentals (10%).

How long is the Cloud+ exam?

90 minutes for a maximum of 90 questions. The passing score is 750 on a scale of 100 to 900.

Is Cloud+ worth it if I already have AWS or Azure certifications?

Usually not as a first choice. Cloud+ is vendor-neutral and most valuable when your work spans multiple providers, or when an employer or framework specifically asks for a vendor-neutral cloud credential.

What experience does Cloud+ assume?

CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on experience as a systems administrator or cloud engineer.
